“I have learned that each and every piece of cloth embodies the spirit, skill, and personal history of an individual weaver. . . . It ties together with an endless thread the emotional life of a people.”

Inside the Anokhi museum

The Anokhi museum is a mysterious and beautiful place. After paying a small entrance fee, I was free to wander its labyrinth of halls and rooms, losing myself in the steep and narrow stairways, the enchanting carved wooden walls, and softly glowing windows.

After the chaotic city of Jaipur, the Anokhi museum left me refreshed, with a new appreciation of Indian textiles: their incredibly intricate designs, lush colors, and thoughtful draping. If you’re in Jaipur, be sure to visit the Anokhi museum; it may not be the flashiest or most famous building in town, but it’s definitely one of the sweetest.
